Basically the reason I first started this post is because I don’t see why you guys won’t be performing your own mold inspection, unless… you are extremely busy, you are working at two jobs, you have absolutely no previous experience, you think that mold is gross and you don’t like dirty jobs, you got plenty of money and you think that hiring someone is not a problem you are very lazy, you are a busy person, you have no house, you just sold your home, you are thinking about moving to another city, etc. However, even if all the above aspects are not letting you inspect your house for mold on your own, this doesn’t mean that you should not have a clue about how to do it. I believe that if you want to become a really serious homeowner you need to know how it is done, just for the sake of letting your kids and your wife know that you can do it (joking). It’s good to be able to get rid of mold on your own, but before you do that you have to attentively detect it and realize what type of mold are you dealing with, what level of growth and development it as and which are the best methods to remove it fast and easy?

Guys, I just want to share with you some of my previous experience regarding mold and most of the stuff that you should understand now is based on the fact that do it yourself mold inspection must and can be done in that particular case when it is not too late and the help of professionals is not yet necessary. It’s time to inspect for mold the very first moment you experienced a flood and managed to get rid of all the water and leakages around your house. Even if you don’t smell anything similar to mold or mildew, it is still necessary to perform an inspection and to make sure that everything is fine and you are not infected by mold. However, sometimes things are just not the way you want them to be and you can wake up one day being partially infested with these fungi, starting with your basement and ending with the kitchen and your own bathroom. Now it might be difficult to spot mold in places like basement because of reduced visibility, but I don’t think that you are going to have any problems noticing the black or green stains of fungi like living organism on the white walls of ceiling of your bathroom.

It is necessary to run inspections for mold on your own from time to time even if you don’t have any and even if your house has never been exposed to a flood or serious water leakage before. When done fast and attentively, mold inspection doesn’t take a lot of time and is usually done in less than one single hour (it depends on how big your house is). Sometimes, places like your bedroom and living room shouldn’t be even inspected for the very single reason that you are not dealing with water directly in those places. Mold likes moisture and humidity and is more eager to appear exactly in those places where you deal and ”play” with water more often. So no matter how other specialists in mold inspection might recommend, I kindly suggest you to always begin with your basement, in case you have one. This particular base is located underground and due to its nature, there is much higher probability of stumbling upon small and apparently unimportant leakages of water that can easily contribute to some huge mold infestations in the long run. So make sure that there is no water in your basement and that everything is dry. When you are done you should move to your garage, bathroom, toilet and maybe kitchen.

There are many different do it yourself mold inspection kits that people can purchase in order to ease their work. While these are not perfectly accurate and you won’t be able to use them as perfect detectors of mold, it is still nice to run several moisture and humidity test and to be able to figure out if the those levels are favorable for the development and growth of mold in our outside your house. Most mold inspection kits that are being sold nowadays on the mold market are very far away in terms of efficiency in comparison with your own experienced eye and nose that could spot and smell the earth odor of mold one thousand miles away. However, these are not even likely to be compared with professional inspectors that have been dealing with mold their entire life. They are so good at it that I guess they probably spent even more time of their life in dark water leakage rooms that somewhere outside. I have a few friends that work as mold inspectors for professional companies in different US cities and they claim that their lungs are giving them to know they exist. What I mean by this is that if you spend too much times in rooms with a high level of humidity and mold you might experience respiratory problems soon.

Generally speaking, knowing how to perform any kind of mold inspection on your own is cool and it is going to save you a lot of time. However, sometimes it might be necessary to see things from a different perspective. There are cases, when homeowners are pretty busy business owners as well and they don’t have too much time to spend doing things in and around their house. This is when do it yourself mold detection kind of stuff might not really be that appropriate and you might be required to hire experienced mold inspectors that have been doing this for a long time to help you out, detect and totally remove the toxic black mold from any room that might be in danger. It’s time for you to take your own decision so think about it properly. If you want to improve your own knowledge and experience in home improvement it might be a good idea to continue to follow our articles about mold inspection here on this blog and learn more. However, if you are having problem with mold and mildew but also lack any free time to detect and get rid of it on your own, outsourcing this job to professionals is what you should be thinking about. This is what you should know about do it yourself mold inspection in the 21st century A.D
